Apr. 18, 1880 - a tornado swept through Coffey County, destroying houses at Strawn, Burlington and Waverly. No lives lost.

May 8, 1880
- The first train on the St. Louis & San Francisco road reached Augusta, Kansas.

Jun. 1, 1880 - The first election was held in Graham county.

December, 1880
- A disastrous fire in El Dorado destroyed the Walnut Valley Elevator.

Dec. 13, 1880 - The banking house of Marley & Marley was established in Oswego as a private institution, with a capital of $50,000.
